Temple of Apollo

We promised in a previous entry that we would revisit the Temple of Apollo and get some pictures of the improvements made to the area.

With new lighting and other street furniture as well as the road being relaid to cobbles, it has made the area very picturesque.

The statues are quite friendly too.

This is Ken and Betty making friends with an old guy. We are told that this was modelled on a chap who still lives locally and is actually 92 years old.

This water carrier statue incorporates a working tap on the end of the spout of his water jug.

and all along the street plants have been hung on the walls, so when they are in full bloom, it should be very colourful (as long as someone has been commissioned to water them every day.

Sancar Otel

This is the pool at the Sancar Otel (next to Altinkum Bim)  which, for the price of a drink, the public can use. The menu is also very varied and includes dishes not found elsewhere in Didim. We had lunch there today, and can say that all the food we had was excellent and very good value.

In the evening, the a la carte restaurant is open on the top terrace with wonderful views over Altinkum Bay.

Yo's Birthday Bash

Yo and Nigel held a little get-together for their friends on the occasion of Yo's birthday.

There were only a small number of candles on the cake because of the fire-risk had we decorated it with the full number, according to fire-officer (retired) John!!!

Altinkum Seafront Update

The seafront is beginning to come together now ...

and this statue of Neptune has been erected by the Sunshine Bar on the road down from Ataturk Boulevard.

However, there is still a long way to go before it is finished and we are well into the season now!

Nari Safi Revisited

We and our neighbours Mary and Nicky visited Nari Safi up by the Temple of Apollo. It's a lovely little restaurant. This year new people seem to be running it and the menu has been extended.

Every Friday and Saturday night they have live music.

Over the last few weeks, the road around the temple has been cobbled, seats and lighting installed and statues have been erected. It's really attractive, and we will go back and get some more pictures for this blog.
