Trains at Söke

I'm sure most people think that the level crossing at Söke is just for decoration, but just to prove this idea wrong, here we are, on the way back from Cappadocia held up by (possibly) the only train of the day. This is the first time we have ever seen the crossing in action in the 9 or 10 years since we've been visiting and living in the area.

Cappadocia

There is a lot more to Turkey apart from our little corner, so we packed the cats off to the cattery, and set off to discover Cappadocia. We went via the Turkish "Lake District", and stayed beside Lake Eğirdir in Lale Pension. We had a lovely overnight stay (more pictures of Lake Eğirdir can be found here)

The following day we completed our journey to Göreme and stayed in a cave room at the Shoestring Pansion.

The pansion was very pretty, with a little courtyard, and steps climbing up to the restaurant and roof-top swimming pool which gave great views over the valleys.

We toured around the area, both by foot, and by tour coach and by horse and trap.

Even in the evening there were photo opportunities.

In fact, everywhere you turned was a great view.

Photos really don't do the scenery justice, but if you want to see more, click here.

We were joined by friends Paul and Gaynor who flew in from the UK.

The journey home also had some extremely beautiful scenery, for more of these scenes, click here

Altinkum Seafront Update

We're sure that for those of you who are arriving here soon, you would love to see how the seafront is coming on.

Well, as you can see, some work has been going on over the last couple of weeks

although it is patchy

This gives you an idea of how it will look.

some of the paviers have been laid in front of Pinocchio's and the Toy Bar

This is Sunday lunchtime, and the bar and cafe owners must be pulling their hair out. The dust and dirt is just going everywhere as diggers and workers crowd the promenade. We know they need to get it finished, but this is the busiest day of the week for the traders as both Turks and Tourists come down to the beach.

There is still lots to do though.

and this was a play area for the kids, and suddenly, just as they want to use it, it's gone. They've only had 6 months to get all these things done, but as always everything is left to the last minute and beyond!
