Our garden project

Since we've been back we've had a little project on the go 

We removed the stones around the mosaic

and the rocks from the rock garden, and filled in the pond

After covering the pond area with polythene, we then moved all the stones into that section to form a new sitting area, shaded by the bamboo.


 The area around the mosaic was then dug out, and the rocks used as a foundation

The circle was widened to accommodate our little pool and cemented over,

 

 tiled,

Spring in Yesilkent

As the weather has been so chilly and damp  this year, spring has arrived in Yesilkent a little late .

But the freesias are as ever very beautiful and well worth the wait. The perfume is almost overwhelming.

Down at the coast, the sea has been particularly calm and tranquil this week, but the water is still cold.

A quick trip to the UK

Not many additions to the blog recently as we had a quick trip to the UK

Luckily we were there for Mother's day and we took my mum out for a meal.

We also visited Southwold to meet up with some friends, here you can see a very unusual clock made from scrap metal. On the hour the men drop their trousers and pee over passers-by.

We also took the opportunity as the weather was so good, to visit the craft centres in Constable country at Dedham.

All too soon it was over and we flew back home to Yesilkent.

The seafront in March

As you can see, there's a way to go yet before the seafront will be ready for visitors.

Work has all but come to a standstill.

However, when things happen here they happen fast, so watch this space

It certainly won't be ready for Easter, but the Mayor says it will be finished by the 1st of May.

 

Camel Wrestling

Today Camel Wrestling came to Didim

This takes advantage of the mating rituals of the bull camels, who attempt to force each other to the ground to assert their dominance.

About 150 camels took part and many hundreds of people turned up to watch.

Didim Seafront

This is Didim Seafront a few weeks ago

and this is Didim Seafront and promenade as it is at the moment

We have heard that the contractor has gone bust, and this could be true as little work has been done for a while. If it is true then it could be another 6 weeks before work re-commences, due to the  project being put out to tender again, acceptance etc. 

April is only 5 weeks away ... oops!!!!

Last week there was snow and ice on the road to Kusadasi, and then Sunday the sun came out.

We took advantage of this lull in the bad weather to have lunch at Nar-i Safa by the Temple of Apollo.

It was a lovely day and so we were able to take our time over lunch ... and with such a backdrop, what could be better?

Sitesi

What do you notice about this sign? Yes ... that's it, the "Sahil Sitesi" has disappeared

In the Autumn, Aydem, the electricity company realised that Sitesi's should be paying for their own street lighting and consequently the lights went out on many sites around Didim including those nearest us, Yesilkent Sahil Sitesi and Gaye 2 sitesi. In a flurry of activity all the barriers keeping these sites "private" were removed (including the newly installed electric gate under this sign). Now, as the traffic can flow freely again, Aydem no longer classifies these estates as Sitesi and the lights have come on again .... we wonder, as they have lost their private status, if the fees won't be collected either!

New Construction at the Seahorse

This new hole appeared at the back of the Seahorse complex this week .... 

not sure what it is yet ... we'll let you know as it develops!

Serenity

A very calm and serene scene ... first (main) beach, Altinkum

A new sight in Didim and Altinkum

Sue says they are not yellow Daleks ...

They are in fact new post boxes (there were none before). We have five or six of them strategically placed around the resort. You will notice the very narrow slits, an ever present reminder of the terrorist age we live in.

Altinkum Sea Front

Altinkum Promenade has been totally dug up from end to end.

For the third time since we've been here it's being re-vamped.

Even the approach roads have been removed

At the moment nobody can enjoy a walk along the sea-front unless you're prepared to get really muddy.

The paving bricks (from the Mayor's newly acquired factory) are waiting to be laid.

This will presumably occur once the new sewage and water infra-structure have been laid.

It's all supposed to be finished by May, if you are coming before that, best bring your wellies.
