More news of the new Yesilkent Hotel

The new hotel in Yesilkent is still rising. The building regulations here are a total mystery, as the Golden Sun Hotel in Altinkum has been ordered to remove the sixth floor as it breaches the planning law that limits buildings to 5 storeys, and this building is now up to 9 or 10?

Mandy and Lawrence's Leaving Do

Mandy and Lawrence are leaving Turkey and returning to the UK. Many of their friends joined them at the Funky Forest to wish them all the best for the future.

We all enjoyed a fish and chip supper ...

followed by some lovely entertainment by Christine.

With dancing, quizzes and a lot of frivolity, I think we gave them a great send-off

Bye both ......

Our New Project

We decided we needed a rail along the wall of the top terrace, both for safety sake and to provide privacy. The canes that had been performing that job were getting a little past their sell-by date.

We bought the metal, paint etc from a local supplier and then Kevin put his welding skills to good use.

After a few hours work all was complete .... just the painting is needed to finish it off.

Yesilkent Hotel News

The hotel building site in Yesilkent where work was suspended because of lack of funds has suddenly burst into life and another floor on each structure has appeared, making it clearly visible from some distance now. This is a huge development in a small community ... let's hope they put in the infrastructure to support it otherwise the power cuts and water shortages in holiday season will just get longer and even more frequent!

Our 2010 trip to Thailand

Hi, sorry there have been no posts to the blog recently, but we have been warming up in Thailand for the last month.

We were visiting our daughter and her partner.

We visited a Crocodile Farm in Pattaya during our stay ...

there were other animals there also.

One of the thousands of bargirls in and around Pattaya.

I had a lovely Italian Meal on my birthday which was rounded off with a complimentary Limoncello from the restaurant.

We did find a little piece of Turkey while we were there ..

If you would like to see more pictures of our visit Click here

Boat Security

In response to the recent theft of boat engines and boats, Erdi is in the process of building a secure compound at the back of the Blue Restaurant, which will hopefully give absent boat owners some peace of mind.

Colin's 66th Birthday

Colin kindly invited us to his 66th birthday celebrations which were held at a lovely little restaurant at Doğanbey. We had an excellent meal and plenty of the old Raki followed by some British attempts at Turkish dancing. A great night ... thanks Colin ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

COLD!!!

Just in case you think we are living in constant warmth and sunshine, we woke up this morning to freezing temperatures. Our birdbath was frozen solid and the indoor temperature was down at 10'C. We have had a week of these conditions so far, and as fast as we pump warmth into the house it disappears through the single skin walls.

New Year's Day in Izmir

On New Year's Day we did some sight seeing. We've never been to the Agora before, but it is supposed to be the biggest Agora found in the world so far, so we thought we ought to seek it out.

It is still being excavated and pieced together ..it will be fascinating to see it once they have finished.

Next on our list of "must-sees" was the Asansör. It's basically a lift that was built by a Jewish man to allow quick and easy access up a very high and steep incline. It was donated eventually to the city and citizens around that area use it a lot.

It also gives us views over the city such as this .... and best of all it's FREE!

This is the little alley that takes you up to the Asansör ... pretty isn't it?

After all that walking we needed a rest, so what better way than sitting in the sunshine, by the sea!!
