The Jungle Refuse Disappears

We had a tractor to take away that huge heap of garden waste for us today

Feral Donkeys!

We don't know where these donkeys came from ... but they've spent the morning tidying up the proposed park in front of the house. Pity they didn't hang about a bit longer, they could have made it look a whole lot better.

Fishing Boat

A lovely example of a local wooden fishing boat taking shelter from rough weather and high winds that have been plaguing us lately.

Venosa Beach

We took a walk along the beach and ended up in front of the Venosa today. We strolled up their new jetty ... smart isn't it?

Clearing the jungle

We spent today clearing the jungle we call our garden.

As you can see from the size of this heap, we've managed to clear at least two tractor loads from it.

The place does look a lot better for it.

And we are getting a lot more light into the house ... perfect for the coming winter.

However, "Fipsy", our Tinkerbelle's sister (who lives 2 doors away) is finding it all very boring. Would have thought she'd have found herself a softer pillow though.

Another visit to The Meandros Restaurant

We went yet again to enjoy the cuisine of the Meandros Restaurant, this time with our friends Pat and Don

Here you can see them watching the head waiter de-boning the red mullet two of us were having for dinner.

Baby Tortoise

Our friends have a tortoise that came to them from the undergrowth around their villa (tortoises occur naturally around Turkey. While she was in season one or two males came knocking on the garden gate and these are the result. She buried her eggs  around the garden and now the eggs are hatching. Five have hatched so far, but there are probably more to come.

Heraklea

Another visit to Heraklea and the village of Kapıkırı

Each time we come we can see different views.

It's a beautiful area on the side of Bafa Lake.

Mavişehir

Perhaps you are bored with sunsets from Mavişehir, but is one of the most picturesque sights around, and we can never get enough of the ever changing colours. Admittedly, a photograph cannot do it justice.

Mandy and Lawrence

Mandy and Lol came for an overnight stay while they were on holiday from the UK. We were all able to relax down on Gaye 2. Synchronised swimming and sailing were just 2 of our activities.

We all had a lovely time.

Izmir

We took Janet and Charles to Izmir to round off their stay with us. One of our favourite activities in Izmir is to cross the bay on the ferry from Konak to Karasiyaka. However this wasn't to be on this visit as the water was choppy and one of the ferries had sunk at the pier head. Having a pigeon Turkish conversation with a nearby café waiter, we think there were some injuries to passengers trying to disembark as it went down.

Their visit to Izmir was rounded off by being able to watch a demonstration that stopped all traffic as it passed our hotel down one of the main Izmir streets in Basmane. We don't think they were protesting against our visit!

Tinkerbelle

We have been adopted by "Tinkerbelle". She arrived one morning and just walked in through the door. She has been with us ever since. Will this one stay, or will she leave like most of the other street animals that have passed through our lives here? Who knows, we'll just have to wait and see.

Doganbey

Our friends from Cyprus Janet and Charles have been visiting us this week. We took them to Doganbey to enjoy a fresh fish lunch.

The Peace Festival

It was the final day of the peace festival on Saturday. Crowds of people made their way down to Main Beach for an evening concert. 

The stage was set up in front of the Vista Bar and 3 different acts performed.

This was followed up by a firework display which rounded the evening off well.
