My Sister's Visit

This week my sister and her husband came to visit us. We showed them around our local area ..



Here we are on Gaye 2

and we showed them places of interest in the region such as Ephesus and Sirince (where you can consumer test the local fruit wines)

They stayed in the Palm Wings resort, which is perfectly situated on the edge of Altinkum, and in a little bay of it's own. The accommodation is either in the hotel building or in bungalows dotted around the complex

FIRE!!!

The blackened remains of Yenihisar Post Office which has been gutted by fire.



This is what confronted us when we went to retrieve our mail from our PO box, so if there were any letters for us ....

Demolition

You may have read recently of illegal builds having to be demolished. This is one such build on Gaye 2.

It was built 23 years ago, and the local residents have been paying tax to the local council for it ever since. However, it has now been decided that it didn't have planning permission and it now has a demolition order on it.

And once it has been knocked down, will the rubble be removed? Or will it remain there, littering the beautiful seascape like a giant scar to remind us all of the official vandalism.

This jetty and others such as the one at Zumrut sitesi as well as over 400 other builds that have gone up illegally are to be demolished under an order issued by the Belediye (local council)

We hope it doesn't happen as it will probably leave devastation and mess ... not exactly an improvement eh?

Gaye 2

Work has started on the installation of mains waste disposal on Gaye 2

Large holes and trenches are being dug and pipes and manholes are being laid.

It must be a nightmare for those who are still here trying to relax in those houses ..

Bin

It's sad what passes for excitement round here ... today we took delivery of a brand spanking new rubbish bin. It replaces an old bottomless oil drum that has been the communal waste bin for the 4 years at least since we've been here. We started campaigning for the replacement over two years ago, and finally, on the 4th Anniversary of us settling here, we were rewarded.

End of Season Gala Ball

A large gang of us descended upon the End of Season Gala Ball. It was the brainnchild of friends Kevin and Annette and Klaus Jurgens of the Voices Newspaper.


The event was held at the Orion Hotel and was very well attended. During the evening an auction was held of items donated by local businesses, and the proceeds of the auction and the event went to 2 charities ... A local School for disabled children and the Women in Turkey Group who are raising money for a mobile clinic.

Leaving

Two of our good friends have sold up here and returned to the UK. We met up with them in Kusadasi just before they left for a final farewell.

Meandros

We and our neighbours Mary, Tricia and Nicky went to a lovely restaurant called the Meandros. It has more of the air of a typical Turkish eating establishment, with Bedouin tents and rustic furniture ... the food was great too!!
